Society of St Vincent de Paul
There are over 19,000 members of the Society in Australia, and more than a million world-wide. When you join the Society as a member, you join a local conference in your community. As a member, you join with others in your local community to deepen your commitment to living a Christian life in service to those in our community who are in crisis and those who need a fair go.
The Waverley Conference of Saint Vincent de Paul was established in 1885. For the past 114 years it has assisted the less fortunate of our community by providing the basic necessities of life during periods of crisis. Today they have a membership of three, and meet on a regular basis either at Bob’s house or Parish Office. Since the closure of the Bondi Junction Vinnies Centre and its revolution to Kingsford, they have had no requests for home visits by clients. However this does not mean they are inactive; they do other important visitations like going to Matthew Talbot Hostel on a regular basis established close with the Come In Centre located at Paddington Parish. They also make regular visits on needs basis to Nursing Homes. They are always available to offer assistance to the Parish.
There are many opportunities to volunteer through Vinnies.
